Golden Valley Plants - PR Day
Rain did not stop play this week for the PR/Nursery day we organised for our clients Golden Valley Plants. We invited a group of plant lovers to see behind the scenes at one of the UK’s largest outdoor nurseries and their passion for plants and gardening was obvious from the moment they arrived. Many were friends on Instagram but had never met face to face so the day was such a treat in so many ways.
Pocket Rocket and the Golden Valley Plants Team were on hand to welcome everyone. Founder Brian Taylor also joined the event; he started the business 50 years ago with his wife Ruth and they are still actively involved supporting their son and daughter who are now part of the business.
Maybe it was the warmth of Brian’s welcome that suddenly stopped the rain and saw the sun emerge as everyone headed for the Dahlia Fields. The site is huge so everyone jumped in golf buggies, adding to the sense of excitement and adventure, which gave way to gasps of joy at the sight of bed after bed of colours and scents. The Dahlias didn’t disappoint pops of red, yellow, pink, white, purple and orange – the ‘Poodle Skirt’ a recent addition to the field caught everyone’s eye and made their way into a few buggies!
Poodle Skirt
Off again, we created a convoy as we weaved our way through the beds and fields filled with glorious colours, staff working away and bees buzzing as they jumped from flower to flower. We stopped briefly to hear from staff on their roles and watch the processes they take such pride in overseeing.
As lunchtime approached it was time to switch sites and head over to where the trial fields were located. This was the first site and the home of parent company ‘Allensmore Nurseries’ best described as a wholesale nursery providing excellent products, packaged to perfection, delivered with care. Ruth greeted everyone with lunch and another warm welcome.
A real surprise moment came when Brian and Ruth invited everyone to have a quick look around their own garden. On arriving onsite you never would have guessed that hidden round the corner was their home and a garden that so obviously revealed their passion for plants and also their knowledge and understanding of what they had spent years growing.
Trials Field
The day was finished by a visit to the trial fields to meet the plants that hoped to make it out and into nurseries, shops, supermarkets and their online shop. I think everyone wished them well and was delighted to hear from Stacey whose job it was to look after them and the process.
At Pocket Rocket, we love supporting our clients with PR days and this one was no exception – Golden Valley Plants warm welcome, knowledge and passion for plants captivated everyone and we can’t wait until the next one!
