Hello 2019
Is it Friday yet?! Today marks the first full day back in the "office" of 2019, after a whirlwind Christmas and New Year.
This year I'm trying to make a conscious effort to not compare myself and my progress with others, whether that's personally, or professionally. Don't get me wrong, being aware of others around you in your field is useful and important, but I often find I spend too much time focusing on what they offer or do "better" than me, rather than looking positively at what I offer and do “better”.
So, with a fresh approach in mind, I spent last Friday organising my Asana project boards, updating and creating to-do's, so that I could go into this week with a clear, focused mind. I'm not a big believer in setting big New Year's resolutions, historically, I've set myself big resolutions that by March are out of the window. Instead, I'm hoping to make small changes this year, which are attainable for me. So, this year I'm hoping to:
I'm a little late to the party, but I've just started reading Big Little Lies. My sister is hoping to read 52 books in 2019, now I know, for me, that's not going to happen but, if I can spend a little time each day putting everything else down and picking up a good book, I'll be happy.
Switch off and digital detox
Time to practice what I preach to my close ones and put my phone down a little earlier at night, and try not to reach for it first thing in the morning or if I do, carrying out a 10 minute meditation using Headspace.
Reduce my usage of single-use plastic and unnecessary packaging
Over Christmas, I made a conscious effort to wrap presents using brown paper, I even up-cycled some old newspaper using festive stamps, but that's not enough. I was lucky enough to receive some eco-friendly presents this Christmas, to get 2019 off to the best start possible.
Continue to grow my confidence
After leaving my full-time position in June 2018 and going self-employed, I’ve learnt a lot personally and professionally about myself and others. This year I want to continue to grow and feel self-confident, whether that’s when I’m skiing down a mountain, or attending a networking event - even writing this feels pretty daunting!
So here’s to 2019 - I hope it’s whatever you want it to be!
Let me know your plans and hopes for the year below :-)
